Windshield Repair

I have deep scratches in the windshield of my '65. Was looking on Eastwood Co.'s online and found a scratch remover kit. Has anyone used this? My windshield is in good condition other than scratches from wipers. Don't want to have to get a new windshield if I don't have to.

Thanks, Chris

If the scratches are too deep, you won't be able to polish them out. LMC has windshields for 99.95 but they only ship truck freight and that's another 100 bucks. Seems steep to me. Have you priced windshields locally? Like you, I hate to spend more than I have to.

If your fingernail catches at all on the scratch, it won't come out.
If it's just a surface abrasion, you might be able to get it out with that kit, but I have yet to talk to anyone who has successfully removed glass scratches with any of these kits.
I'd invest the price of the kit towards a new windshield. Your local glass guys should be able to get you one no problem. Call around, as glass is very competitive.

I just had an LMC windsheild installed on my 66 F100. I priced it out locally and they wanted $440.00. The LMC windsheild, the $100. freight charge and then $110. for a mobile installer to come out to do the install still was about one hundred dollars cheaper that having it done locally. The installer was skeptical about the windshield and rubber being that it was an Asian import. After he finished he told me the he was surprised as to how acurate the fit of both the glass and the rubber was.
