Eastwood Glass Restoration Kit

I have some sand blasting damage to my back wrap around glass on my 1958 Ford F100 so I purchased the Eastwood glass restoration kit. Has anyone used it to repair damage to their glass? I would love to have any help you can give.

I know you want to know how I got sand blast damage to the back window.
I made the mistake of doing some sand blasting on the bed before removing the rear window. Amazing how far the sand traveled.

I have an old window to practice on.

I'm not familiar with the kit from EW specifically, but most are only meant to remove light haze and wiper tracks. In any polishing operation you must remove and smooth the entire surface down to the depth of the deepest damage. In this case I'd expect the sand pitting is relatively deep comparitively speaking. I don't hold a lot of hope you can polish it out with a kit like that. If the glass is tempered forget it. Best start saving for a new glass.

I've used Eastwood's deep scratch repair kit with limited success. I had a scratch on the rear window of an old Mustang that i could catch my finger nail on and yes, I was able to get it out w/the kit and it looks great from the outside. From the inside though, the view out the back is kind of warped in that spot (took too much glass off). Ultimately, I will probably have to replace the window...

I also tried to lightly polish my F-100 windshield to remove the years of wear and it didn't seem to help too much (and now I have light circular scratches). If I spent some more time w/a buffer or something (rather than my drill) for the buff pad and rhodite compound (for final finishing), it will probably come out. But too many other projects are more pressing...

My advice...save your money and buy some new glass if your truck is a nice driver or better...I will not be using the kit again...I've asked professionals on the subject their only remedy is to replace the glass...

I have heard the same thing from glass professionals. As far as scratches, if you can catch them with a fingernail...they are too deep. Most glass shops (around here anyway) have a machine that can polish them out, but as Rusty said, it messes up the optics.

My windshield has scratches from the old wiper blades (PO let them get bad), however they are too deep to polish out. I will replace the glass at some point. The local shop wants $300 (installed) for mine.

I seriously doubt you can remove the sandblasting damage without messing up the optics on yours. Have you checked the price of a new one? I know its the wrap around one. Flat glass is a lot cheaper.

Won't work on sandblast damage

I tried using the Eastwood kit and the damage was just too deep. 4 hours and several pieces of paper later and I could not get deep enough.

The polish works well in cleaning up the glass but don't count on removing anything that is very deep.

I went ahead and purchased a new rear window.

Ira, your doing a beautiful job on that 58, Can I ask a question about the original rear window? Was there any type of marking on the glass, such as fomoco or a glass company name?

No markings, none that I can see and I have become pretty familiar with it.
