c6 shifter arm question

so the c6 that came with my truck has the linkage set up for a floor shifter, the lever on the trans points up. can I just remove the linkage and install it with the arm pointing down so it will work with the column shifter, or do I need a column shift arm for the trans?

The arm and shaft that it's attached to are a one piece assembly and can't be taken apart.
To change the arm you have to drop the valve body. It's not too bad and, once the transmission is drained an the pan removed takes about a half hour, laying on your back.
The hardest part of the deal is getting the trans arm and the kickdown arm to reengage the valve body because it's above the valve body and you have to do it by feel.
The last picture is the shift arm you should have.

thanks. I know it's one piece and how to remove / install it, just need to know if I could flip it or if the floor and column shift apps used a different piece.

btw, I've been following your rebuild/resto thread, awesome work! I hope mine looks half as good when it's done.

I did a search and if you need one, there is still one NOS piece available.
Let me know if you want it and I'll PM you the dealer contact info.

EDIT: Corrected wrong part number
I messed up on the original part number that I posted. The first number (D3TZ-7A256-B) is for an FMX, not a C6.

Is the OP's 1978 F150 a 2WD (D8TZ-7A256-A) or a 4WD (D8TZ-7A256-B)?

sorry for digging up the past. This is the first thread I’ve ever found with this info and part number. Can anyone tell me where I can buy one of these?

I did a search and couldn't find any dealers or obsolete parts suppliers that showed having one in stock.

thank you for the fast reply. I’m running into the same issue. The only one I’ve been able to find available is for a 4wd only.
