dissapointed with flowmaster super 10

I bought my super 10 about 2 years ago now and at first i was pleased with it but then i realized that at cruising speed there is a horrible hollow sound. Im guessing that im experiencing drone. I have now replaced my stock cat with a smaller magnaflow cat to make the sound more aggressive and get rid of the low volume hollow sound but its still very bad. And now all i smell is rotten eggs because of the cat. (is it because its new?) So here is what im wanting to do. Keep that cat and switch to a xr-1 or a magnapack which do you guys recommend that is as loud as a super 10. Or get a quieter borla or magnaflow muffler and get rid of the catalytic converter. Ive tried running my super 10 without a cat and it sounds horrible and was so down on low end power it was unbelievable. Sorry to trash talk flowmaster and i know people have had good luck on other motors but on my 5.4l im very dissapointed.

I dunno what your exhaust is but a single 3" round 12-16" long Magnaflow would be my choice if you want loud with no drone.

I'm sorry to hear that you are no longer happy with your Super 10 muffler. I must say that our Super 10 Series mufflers are so aggressive that we do not recommend them for use on street driven vehicles. We make no secret of the fact that a muffler this aggressive will drone at cruising speeds. If you want to run a very aggressive sounding muffler with less drone, I would recommend a Super 40 Series Delta Flow muffler for your application. Again, I apologize that you are no longer satisfied with your choice of muffler and wish you the best of luck with your system.

Thanks for your response. I love a company that will back its product. By no means am i against flowmaster. In fact dual flowmaster super 44's on a mustang is my favorite set up. I just think on my truck with how i want my set up its just not right. i want as loud as possible without being strait piped with minimal drone and i think im going to be trying a magnaflow muffler next so it atleast matches my aftermarket catalytic converter. But again thanks for your response and suggestion.

I have had flowmasters on a couple cars and have switched both to magnaflow. Got rid of the tinny sound that the flowmaster had.

I have tried to tell people this for a long time, but no one listens to me or considers I might have experience in the field. Magnaflow cats are junk. Now you can spend the big bucks and get the CA legal stuff, (which is actually made by another company and assembled by Magnaflow), but you can get much higher quality stuff at a much better price in general. when I worked in the exhaust industry, I would not recommend them to people. I used Eastern's cats instead, much better product, you got a lot more cat for your money, and the warranty was much better (depending on who you got it from).

On the muffler, I wouldn't recommend either Flowmasters, or Magnaflows. Now granted, on that it was anyones opinion, and we gave them what they wanted, but to people who were undecided we usually recommended another product, and for most of the customers I dealt with at the time, they actually preferred it. The brand was WickedFlow, its what I have on my own personal vehicles. We had too many issues with droning on both Flowmasters and Magnaflows. It depended not he vehicle of course, each design will resonate at different frequencies, so depending on the size of the pipe, size of the motor, number of valves, length of the tailpipes, there were so many factors that could play into it. The resonation itself though is usually within a certain frequency range, which often correlates to cruising speeds. The WickedFlow was specifically engineered to cancel sound in that range if properly sized to the motor. And they cost less than Magnaflows. The biggest "complaint" we got was some people though they were too quiet. So it depends on what you want. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I'm not in that industry anymore, decided to change professions after doing it for the better part of a decade. Thats a tough industry to be in, at least in the area I worked.
