I have the cat and muffler off of the truck now, and all thats on there is a 3" pipe right after the O2 back.
My question is, will a flowmaster super 44 make this truck louder than just having the straight pipe on it? Im going for a pretty loud exhaust and want to know what will be the best route to go. Keep just the pipe, or get some type of muffler that will make this louder somehow....
The Flowmaster Super 44, like all mufflers, will make the truck quieter and tune the sound of the exhaust, getting rid of unpleasant sound frequencies. Putting it on in addition to your stock muffler will make the truck quieter.
If you want it as loud as possible cut out the muffler and the cat, you will then have straight pipes. I do not recomend this, it will sound like a POS and probably get you pulled over. If you do not need the cat (no emissions testing) get rid of it and put in the super 44 instead of your stock muffler, it will be a lot louder and sound good. You could also replace your stock muffler with the super 44 or something like a cherry bomb glasspack (louder than the super 44) and keep your cat. I have a cat and a Flo-Pro V7 on my '94 F250, it sound pretty good. The Explorer in my signature has no cat and a cherry bomb and it's louder than hell. Some guys on this site keep their cat and get rid of the muffler, which I hear is a pretty loud setup, but I don't know how good it sounds.
I would personally recomend getting rid of the cat (if you can get away with it) and replacing the stock muffler with the Super 44 (or something similar), it will give you the best balance of being loud and not sounding like a POS. Good luck with your exhaust.

At the moment it has nothing on it. Before I took it all off, i ordered the Flowmaster. But, I think it sounds really good like this. Idk. I was just wondering if there was something to make it louder than this, while making it sound pretty good. Thanks for the reply
If you put a cherry bomb on, it wouldn't make it much quieter and it would sound pretty good. And they are cheap, between 20 and 30 bucks.
I had a thrush glasspack on it before with the cat, and it wa spretty quiet... didnt really sound too bad, but I wanted it louder and with a more deeper tone.
I've heard a few 351s with the no cat/ Cherry Bomb setup and they are pretty loud and sound alright. That combination even made my Explorer pretty loud. The super 44 would sound better though and I agree with 6CylBill, I like the chambered mufflers thats why I have the Flo-Pro on my truck.

I love Chambered mufflers. Glass packs don't sound bad either. My neighbor has the 4.2 V6. He simply switched out the stock muffler for a 26'' or so long glass pack and put an echo tip on the end.. It actually sounds pretty good. Has a stock souding idle but it has a nice rumble and revs nicely. I was surprised how good it sounded.
I should get a clip of the Explorer I have, it sounds pretty good, the only problem is that it doesn't have any bite to go with it bark. I checked your clip and your truck looks great and the super 44 on the 300 sounds burly!

Hey thanks! I thought I was never going to find an exhaust system I liked. Nothing beats the sound of a V8.

Be sure to post that sound clip when you take it
I like, REALLY like the sound of my truck with nothing on it. Its loud outside, as well as inside. I want to put a muffler on it though so I dont do any valve damage over the years. Its got that hot rod crackling sound to it. Its so awsome!!!
I got the super 44 today, so it'll be on tomorrow, and hopefully it keeps the "hot rod crackling" with a lower rumble...

I have an I6 btw, not a V8. Just to clear that up.
Don't really see how a FM44 would stop you from having valve damage. I never heard of that anyway. I think the main thing is to keep your pipe long (i.e. run it all the way out back). Just my two cents.

Correct me if im wrong, but I was told that not having a muffler on a truck will leave it with not enough back pressure and cause valve damage in the motor..

If you have open headers / manifolds and it is very cold outside.. This might be a problem, but not related to back pressure.
Other people will know more than I and might bother to give you actual facts.
I say drive it with the open pipe if you like the way it sounds. Be sure to reset your trip odometer so we can know how far you get before you get pulled over. I say in town 2 miles, rural maybe the second or third cop you see. I got pulled over in my 88 toyota with header, 2.25" cat, turbo muffler less than 10k miles old and full tailpipe. I'm still pissed 2 yrs later....but I digress
