Now THAT is too dang funny!!

OP, my 4.6L had aluminum heads on it and I pulled it and the 4R70W transmission behind it out just fine.

I'm not going to remove the motor and trans, just the motor as I did before. I'd rather get tired and pissed than see my motor fall on the ground and need to fix that. Thanks all.

The main issue is I need to remove the accessories from the front and then bolts from the transmission on the rear. That takes so much time and some of these are VERY difficult to get to. And lining up the flexplate is difficult as well. Since it's just me, the process of removing/installing the motor can take several hours.

That being said I am wondering if it would be easier (and possible) to remove the motor and trans together. I have a friend who made me a bracket that fits the the intake - https://i.imgur.com/BNBbemE.jpg

That steel is 0.106" thick and I gave him an intake gasket to get the holes in the right places.

What I was thinking is I could remove the front clip (front rad support and both fenders) and that would then allow me to remove the trans and engine together.

With that said, I am not sure...is this an OK or good idea? I am not sure if the bracket (which attaches to an aluminum intake) I have will be able to hold all the weight of the engine and trans.

Looking for thoughts/opinions/comments on doing this.

Those brackets are used, but I'm not a big fan and prefer using lower mounting points...........I Highly recommend you pull motor and trans together after removing as much of the front as possible.....
.........Nowadays (with Powerstrokes) we just lift the cabs in approx 60-75 minutes ........trickier on your model year.........

A couple of related questions....

1) the reason why I need to remove the motor is because I have one, maybe 2, stripped header bolts that I'm going to repair. I am going to repair them with a heli-coil. Question is, since these are aluminum heads, is it a good idea or no to go ahead put heli-coils in the rest of the bolt holes while I have the motor out? Seems like a lot of risky, extra work.

2) Since I'm only removing the motor by itself, am I safe to use the bracket in the OP on the aluminum intake?

Just wondering how the motor pull is going? How did you make out on the stripped header bolts?

The pull of the motor went well actually. This was the first time I pulled the motor in a while and some improvements I made during that time really made an easy job of pulling the motor.

I haven't fixed the stripped bolts yet, was taking care of other things first.

I have the blower coming back to me next week and I hope to have the headers back by then as well. With those back I should be able to get back on the road.
