Should I get a high flow cat?

Been on the fence forever on doing this or gutting the rear cat. I have heard good things about improving the exhaust on the 4.9 in regards to gas mileage and a little extra hp. My concern is will it sound like crap? My magnaflow exhaust now sounds better than any other 4.9 I've ever heard, I'm afraid to mess that up. Anyone have any insight on this?

I have a stock six, and it sounds like an angry swarm of bees.

I really believe whether they sound good or bad is in the ear of the beholder. I,knowing that they make loads of torque at a low rpm consider them a no none sense engine,a poor mans diesel if you will. I personally don't think they sound bad.

Some of them do. Lol. As long as I don't try to rev high, nobody would ever know that mine is a six though. I'm afraid making it louder would make it obvious.

even though this is my favorite motor in the whole entire worldly being (for a truck anways) i have to agree with brad on this one, some times they sound good with a short straight pipe and a stock cat at low rpms, no matter what exhaust you put on that is louder than stock it will always sound like a *****& off wasp.

That sucks. I love the engine but I hate the sound. I still may build something better in the future. I want to see a coyote in one of these trucks.

Bad thing is, it actually doesn't sound like a wasp right now, it's just relatively quiet compared to my vehicles in the past. It's just a si/do magnaflow muffler dumped before the axle which probably makes it deeper. It's quiet at idle and has good Rumble below 2k.

In the past I had a 2000 mustang 4.6 with headers, catless x pipe and magnaflow catback. It woke the dead and sounded amazing doing it. I guess that's why I'm in the market for another one after I close on this house.

The Cummins makes the same tune but deeper. I love the sound of a big block high compression v-8 for the racecar sound but I guess I acquaint the sound of the big 6's with high torque low RPM truck/tractor engines and like them for what they are "truck utility engines" and that's why it pleases me to him them run...but this is coming from an old farm boy and old school truck driver.
