My trucks a 92 4.9 with a 5-speed. Right now I had to cut off one of the Cats because it was really clogged and was choking my motor out so I cut the rear most Cat off. Now its just got the 1st cat(if thats what it is). Needless to say its loud and right under the cab of the truck. I'm not interested in putting another Cat on there, I just wanna run some pipe and throw on a muffler. I'm looking for a sound that sounds good and not ricey sounding. ANy suggestions?. I searched and found that Flowmasters dont sound good. I wanted to maybe just run a cherry bomb and route the pipe out the rear. Suggestions???
IMO big sixes don't sound ricey so much as they sound Yorkshire puddingish - like an old Jag or Aston Martin with an L6.
Exhaust sound is like music. What sounds good to one person gives somebody else the urge to kill. If you don't dig the old Jag sound I really like Magnaflows. If you groove on the British sound get a Powerstick chambered exhaust.
I'd get a new, cheap universal three-way cat if you have to pass tailpipe testing. A properly functioning cat doesn't affect performance.
well research is very useful, but you never get the real deal until you experience it in person. I hope you weren't at the f150online website, because all they preach is that flowmaster sounds terrible.....NO IT DOESN'T, I run a super 44 single in/out and it sounds perfect to me for a 6. I also run them on my 390 and sound great. Chambered mufflers sound better than straight though mufflers on these 300's. If you go with something like a glasspack, more the chance you'll have a ricer note coming for the exhaust.
