on board air

Has anyone seen someone out a york compressor in place of the smog pump in order to have an on board air compressor? Im rebuilding the 460 and was thinking of taking the smog pump off and putting one of these compressors on here with a tank under the cab. I tried searching for a thread but nothing remotely close came up so I didnt know if any of you guys have heard of doing this

There is a kit that turns almost any a/c compressor into an onboard air compressor. It involves an oiling system with an oil return so you get just air out without the oil. Not cheap. I can't find who makes one anywhere. Maybe someone else can help.

I don't know what these cost, but I'd be more inclined to do this... 12V, 200 PSI, 1.76 CFM

I haven't tried the belt-driven York compressors, but I've had three different 12V compressors, and they are SLOW. They are great to have, but airing four 33-12.50x15 tires from 15 psi to 30 psi at the end of a trail took probably close to a half hour (it's been a few years, maybe it was only 20 minutes). Running air tools off them really isn't an option.

I'm thinking a belt-driven one would be a lot faster, so if you are interested in that I'd suggest you keep looking into it rather than going electric.

I have a York OBA system on mine. York 210 (largest displacement) compressor charging a 7 gallon tank in the toolbox. Only special thing I bought was the sepentine/v-belt dual belt pulley. I could have made one by welding 2 pulleys together but didn't bother. All other parts are off the shelf stuff from places like Home Depot and ebay. Compressor bracket was made at work in the fab shop... nothing special, just some 3/16" steel plate welded together. I can post pics if you need them, just let me know what you wanna see.

Remember I have a 351 though, you might not be able to mount yours like I did. I thought of using the smog pump location too, but it would be harder to get too.
