I am looking for an air compressor to fill some tanks I will be mounting on the truck. I have so far only found the tank/compressor kits for air horns. I just need the compressor. I did find one compressor but it was a bit high. Anybody have any suggestions on where to look. Links would be great. Thanx.
I have thought about taking a compressor setup off of one of the IH 4700 trucks and using an A/C clutch on it, but so far I have only thought about it. I have no idea if it would fit or mount up. Maybe an idea for you.
This is just a wild idea, but could you possibly use an old A/C compressor i know they will pump up to like 220psi and since they only pump gas refrigerant in the firstplace air is close to the same. Just use a pressure switch to cycle the clutch on and off.

Neal, Are you wanting a belt driven compressor or electric?
If you decide to use an AC compressor try to find an old York pump out of the 70's and 80's. The had oil in the crankcase unlike the ones today that have the oil in the freon. They are rebuildable but IDK if the parts are still available.
I am looking for an electric one since it will not be required all of the time. I am putting train horns on and airbags for the rear in the future. I have often thought of a belt driven one but no more than It will be needed an electric will do. I also thought to mount a belt to the Driveshaft instead of the motor because there would be more room. But it was just a thought.
I just need an electric that will build 100-120 psi.
That brings up some foreign language. I also tried vlair. I am searching e-bay and found a tank and compressor for around $50 but I just want the compressor. It may do though.
I got one from Harbour Freight 65.00 i think, it is high volume too...it does good but I wish it was a little more volume so it didnt have to run as long, but does the job to fill my 7 gal tank to 120 psi.

i ran OBA with a York 210 on my PSD until i put my banks IC kit on a couple weeks back. i LOVED it! i highly recommend going the york way. I have pics in my gallery found in my sig. i have a high idle setting on my chip and with the truck in high idle i can pump up 4 39.5" tires from 3psi to 20 psi in about 5 minutes which is screaming!
its not like i used my air all the time either but i was sure glad i had it when i needed it. it would run my impact with no problems. i cant count how many times i have stopped to help someone with a flat tire and they flip out when i pull out my air gun and start zippin away (not to mention the air hose reel i have mounted on the frame)! its also super handy to fill up those spare tires we ALL forget to keep air in!
i will be puttin OBA back on my truck ASAP! just gotta figure out how. I think i will run it off a PTO
if you just have to run an electric go with a VIAIR. the offroad guys run them to no end and they hold up quite well. biggest issue with elec units is you have to let it cool down every so often so it takes twice as long to complete the task!
also, i mounted my tank directly under my bumper. its a 5 gallon and fits perfectly between the frame rail. had a pressure switch and all hooked up so it was automatic only when the key was on so as not to run my battery down over night!
