429 Swap-Oil pan

429 Swap-Oil pan
Im in the midst of a 429 swap and have the whole front clip of my truck tore apart installing dream beams. I know in 4x4's you need a rear sump pan. What about 2 wheel drives? I cannot find any info on this. Would a fromt sump work, one more desirable than the other? I could answer this question myself if my truck wasn't tore down, but that's not the case.

Us 4x4 guys do NOT have to swap to a rear sump oil pan on a 460, when putting it a 4x4.
Its just the best call, other wise you can get the front pumpkin to hit the bottom of the pan, yes I know that for a fact.
As far as 460 in 2wd 79 isn't it a front sump? I have never really looked to be honest, but I think it is? So I am guessing a 429 front sump pan will work? Or one that straddles the crossmember?

I think you will need a rear sump pan and it will be easier to install while engine is on stand. The pick up tube installs on stud on crankshaft main bearing cap. You need to verify clearance of pick up to bottom of pan with clay or silly putty and seal up pan right with sealer and gaskets. The truck in photo is my 67 I swapped a 429 in place of a I6 20 years ago. I think a 79 crossmember will be similar.

Yea there is an obvious sign in the pan from it happening when the PO had it and the worn out highboy front springs gave out and his fix was FRONT blocks.....jeeshh.
Idiot move #2 along with the notched R/H top frame rail cause he used a car exhaust manifold instead of getting a truck one.
