New tire time for my 79 f-150!
So it's time for some new tires on my old 79 f150.
warning I try to be detailed haha!
it's a full time 4x4(about to be converted to a part time) has a rebuilt 351m to a 400m plus rv cam. And a rebuilt auto c6 trans.
I do a lot of off roading in this truck, muding, trails, rocks, gravel, And some highway use as well 50/50 I'd say. I have on board air so shooting down isn't an issue.
I'm currently running 33x12.50x15 courser radial lt's foot the street. but im getting new 17" or 18" rims for the truck.
I've narrowed it down to 3 tires in 4 sizes to pick from and id like to hear from anyone with experience with them. All the prices are with 100$ of each other.
I can clear just under 35" tires in the truck I don't want wider than 12.50 either.
Firstly there is the bfg km2 in the 285/70r17 measures right at 33in tall. I've heard a lot of good about this tire for rock crawlers but some bad about wet/snow/ice conditions.
I live in Utah so it must be a well behaved tire in these conditions!
Second is the nitto trail grappler in the 285/75r17 at 34"tall I have these on my superduty in a 37" and they do well in most conditions I haven't been in deep mud yet though.
Going to the 18"
Third is the nitto trail grappler in the 295/75r18 at 34.5in
Fourth is the super swamper m16 in 285/65r18 at 32.5in tall. I feel that's kinda small fit what I want though.
Last thing to keep in mind is these are not my mud bogging tires, I have a set of 33x14x15 ss boggers for that stuff.
I want These tires to run on the truck when I'm not planning on boggin, but still want great tires for the regular weekend playtime. Thanks for any advise guys!

Boogers are cool if you wanna pay extra $ for the "BFG" on the side. They are decent tires, but pull a premium. They are also fairly hard and chunk pretty good in temps below 10*
Nittos are EXTREMELY soft tires and will wear very quickly, especially if your alignment is off slightly.
IMHO, look into coopers. They're the best combination of wet asphalt/cold asphalt and offroad I've ever had on my truck. I've had BFGs, pro-comps and coopers.
With what you picked, I'd go with the boogers probably. Nitto's are just too soft and you're not buying a whole lot of tread

I'll have to see exactly what cooper has near my size!
And like I said all 4 of these tiresi mentioned are within 100$ of each other pet set.
I've seen a lot of reviews about the bfgs in cold weather being sub par. So I'm ruling them out.
As for the nittos I have had good tread wear on my set. they are load range e though, I love the traction I've had, but I agree they are almost too sticky for dd usage. Seeing how im going to do a lot of off roading I still consider them a good option for this truck.
Id live to hear if any one has had the m16's And what they are like. I can't find to many reviews on them!
