Connecting reverse ligths to reverse switch

I have spent the better part of the morning trying to find a thread that shows how to connect my reverse lights to my switch. I would like to continue to have a switch override, but I left it on last night - this is the third time and I need to find the thread that explains how. I thought I had it bookmarked but too many bookmarks. If you know of it, please let me know, I will continue my search. Thanks.

If you want to run it off key pwr this pic shows where you can tie in: 3-Gauge Install Pictures

That way you would need the key on to use them. Are you disconnecting the reverse wire off the dtr on the transmission? If both were on you might overload the circuit. Here is a wiring diagram if that helps: http://www.e-toolbox.com/ads/wiring/va112365.pdf

If your truck is 02 or newer the diagram may be a little different.

@tdpower,
Thank you, it is a 2000 F350. My original idea was to just have a switch to manually turn them on, and then also when I go into Reverse. I have seen a lot of write ups but for some reason can't seem to find them in my "Truck Todo Bookmarks". I will take a peek at your info and thank you.

Was thinking about this last night. You could add a relay inline of you existing power wire and use the backup light switch on the transmission to power the relay. That way you still use the switch to use or not use the lights but would only work when in reverse and also cut the power when truck is off.

I used a relay also, in combination with ON(A)-OFF-ON(B) switches.

If switch is ON(A), and I put it in reverse, then the lights come on.

If switch is ON(B), then the lights turn on, even when NOT in reverse.

If switch is OFF, then the lights won't come on, even if the key is on, and even when in reverse.

If the key is off, then the lights won't come on, even if the switches are turned on, no matter if A or B.

The diode suppressed relay in the photo above routes switched power to the lights.

I am looking to do the same. I have an LED lightbar and some lightforces wired up to a couple relays and a three position switch. Where did you tape into a reverse light signal wire?

I used the reverse signal from the trailer wiring harness.
