water meth questions?

would water meth help cure the compression/boost issue allowing more boost also would it help with over heating, i've been researching it mainly for my 93 cummins but if it will help my 86 6.9 i would do it for that too. i haven't turbo'd it yet, but i want to.. would head studs still be needed?

I would not add water methanol to an NA engine. If it is overheating, find the issue and resolve it before anything else. If you are looking for power, turbo it first, intercool it second, and if you are doing heavy towing and the intercooler still is not keeping the EGT's down, (AND you are sure you not over-fueling)then think about water methanol (chemical intercooling). Honestly, with a properly sized turbo and intercooler you should be fine. Head studs are always good insurance when running boost, and a must if you are running a lot of boost (20 psi is a lot of boost for us IDI guys).

Okay, i have to pull heads to do head gaskets, are there any issues i should know about? How amuch are head studs?

We ran water/meth injection on a small cummins powered truck. It certainly made the oil dirty quick by washing all of the carbon out of the combustion chambers and pistons.

Studs are around $215 to $250 on e-bay, you can usually find $220 with free shipping. If the thing got hot you will want to take your heads to a machinist to check for warp and magnaflux for cracks. Best to find those things out first before you use your gasket set.

I've only had it running for three different times, totaling 15mins. The first time injector caps leaked, second the fuel return line was cut, then last i added water/ coolent and blam water poured from the head gasket while it was running, and it leaked into the oil.. but no oil in the coolent thankfully..

I ve read that the first couple oil changes would be best around 2,000 to get the old carbon out.

And why do most people here oppose water meth but na gassers use it, doesnt need boost. It allows you to advance your timing without detonation. What are your thoughts?

You can run it, it just wont do much for an NA. It would allow you to turn up the fuel some and maintain EGTs, but i doubt you gain much from it.

Im not trying to say im right, im not sure it might be different between gassers and diesels, im just trying to figure it out, maybe ill plumb the water meth in the idi first then take it out and put it in my cummins and let you guys know how it works.
it will be a while before i can afford the money to fix the ford and build the water meth kit but ill let you guys know how it goes
