Door tag confusion!!

So I am now reasonably sure that the 460 in my 77 F150 was swapped in. Today I did what I could to decode the door tag and now I am very confused. F14HNO27207 117P F140 D04 G 16J 06050 1977 24 F14('77-'79 Pickup<F150>) H('77-'79 V8 351 2-bbl 5.8 Litre) N(Norfolk Plant) O27207(Model year 77) Door Plate 117(Wheelbase) P(1977-1978 Dark Nectarine Metallic) F140 (I SWEAR this says F140, and might be I'm totally blind and it says F150) D04(Trim - Think this denotes F150 Custom) G (1973-1979 3spd Auto Ford) - no idea WHICH ford trans this is) 16J ('75-'77 3.50 Ratio Power Steering) This truck is 4WD 3Spd with 460. I know the motor is swapped out, now, but I can find nothing according to the door tag showing that this was a 4WD model. Absolutely bizarre but it looks like all that stuff is stock.. What gives. Am I getting the wrong info trying to decode this online or what? EDIT: I cannot get this post to format correctly, sorry for it being jumbled.

Confirmed... F14 is a half-ton 4x4.

I think you mean 16J is the rear axle and front axle... not a PS ratio which is like 20:1 or 16:1.

Go here to re-verify your info: 1973-1979 Ford Truck VIN Tag Codes (Series) - FORDification.net

Thanks brother!! That link has WAY more info that the one I had found with google. WAY more accurate!!

I need to figure out what axles it has so that I can order parts, the rear diff is leaking around the seal and from where the shaft enters the diff (it looks like) so I need to figure out what to order to fix that, and I figure I may as well do the front while Im at it.

Another thing that has been bugging me is that this is the first 4x4 with the manual locking hubs that I've owned, The 4x4 selector only seems to go into two positions but is marked 4Lo N 2HI 4HI or something like that. Am I missing something here, why the shift only goes into two positions?? I know this will seem like a completely retarded question to some of you, but I figured if I don't ask, Ill never learn

Discovered today the truck has a 4BBL Holley carb on the motor, need to try and get a number off of it.

HIO is correct, the F14 part of the VIN means F150 4WD, the "J" in the AXLE just means power steering not the ratio of the power steering, the ratio is the rear axle.
The F140 designation means 76-up F150 w/ a 6050 LB GVW and 4WD.

You must have the np203 transfer case. It actually has a shift pattern. Pull to the left then forward , should go all the way forward. If the original **** is on it, the shift pattern is on the ****.

Ill try that, thanks. The **** just shows them in a straight line top to bottom, which is why I was confused.

My Transfer case is "stubborn" at times to, sometimes I have to move my truck forward or backwards some to get it to shift, but after messing with it a while it usually does, and without moving the shifter side to side, my bet is yours hasn't been shifted in a while and needs "persuasion"
