Transmission fluid leak

Just noticed that my transmission is leaking fluid on my 05 Eddie Bauer. Truck has 103K on it and I've owned it since about 80K. I've never had the fluid changed. It looks like the leak is concentrated from the rear of the pan and mostly all if the bolts were wet with fluid; my question is, would there be any other place it could be leaking from other than gasket? I was going to drop pan and change fluid, filter, and gasket; just want to be sure that's where it's leaking from. Thanks for all your input.

There is also a seal between the tranny and transfer case that can leak. I would use some Foamy Engine Bright and clean it real good. Then drive it for a few days and keep checking to see where the leak starts. Since it's not dripping and is only getting wet, once cleaned up the leak should be slow enough for you to see where it is coming from.

Ok, I'll give that a shot. Hopefully it's not that seal, that sounds like a lot $$$ for labor.

I have (retiring it on Friday) a 1998 Expedition, EB, 5.4L. Several weeks ago, we were on vacation, towing a trailer carrying my Harley. I started noticing oil on the back of the truck and the trailer tongue (and the front of my Harley ). Looking under the vehicle revealed that the cross member behind the transmission was wet with transmission fluid. Once in the mountains for the week, I took the Expy to the Ford dealer. It turned out that the leak was the filler tube. A hole had rusted into it about 1/3 of the way up from where it fits into the top of the transmission.

As stated above, we're retiring the vehicle on Friday...had it for 13 years...217,000 miles. It's been a great truck. I'm picking up a 2006 Eddie Bauer on Saturday. I hope it turns out to be as good a truck as my 98 has been.

Got it taken care of today, it was the O-ring seal around where the shifter goes into transmission. Easy fix, shop did fluid change and filter....but now I've noticed there is a whining noise that actually started yesterday. I can't tell if its coming from trans or engine.

Same whining noise here. Had it start after doing a complete tranny flush and filter change. Using the search feature a few years ago, pointed to the pump for the torque converter. Could last 500, 5000, or 50,000 miles.

Perhaps another knowledgeable member can provide some insight on this.

The whine is most likely coming from the input shaft bearing.
