Unhappy No start - am I on the right path?

Truck quit a couple weeks ago while driving, like you just turned the key off. Couldn't even get it to fire with ether. Had to get it towed for the first time ever. I was the talk of the town.

Here are the facts so far:

- All fluids were full at the time of the engine stopping
- WTS light comes on
- Cranking does not produce exhaust
- Fuel heater gave me problems before, so it's not even hooked up anymore.
- Mechanic pulled codes and CPS lit up. He replaced with a new CPS I had on hand.
- Mechanic did a buzz test and no go on the injectors so he figured IDM, so he replaced with a rebuilt I bought from AutoExchange - still no go.

From old threads I am reading, I am thinking I should replace the IPR and ICP and maybe it will go? Are the IPR and ICP the same for all years of the 7.3?

It sounds like your ipr is stuck to me. Do you have any way to take any high pressure oil readings?

When replacing the IPR, are there any adjustments to the unit that need to be made after the install?

No, just don't overtighten the tin nut. I use loctite on it and snug it up good. I've had it fall off before.

I checked fuses as soon as it quit on me, but I had a pretty good idea that wasn't the problem.

Still not entirely sure what the problem was. It worked after the IDM was replaced, but not great. So mechanic replaced the glowplugs and UVCH and gaskets. He figured it was partly an electrical short.

But since I bought the IPR as the next step in determining the root problem, I might as well put it in. Maybe someone wants to buy the old one on here.

Supposed to pick the truck up today. Hopefully this is the end to it's problems for a while.

Earlier you said it was "no go" after IDM replacement. So is the engine running now? What exactly changed (or didn't change) with each part replacement?

No, the 94.5 and 95 have the edge filter in the end of the IPR. The 96 and 97 do not.

I am confused myself. First mechanic said the new IDM didn't fix the problem, but then it decided to run a day or two later. Then he started messing around with the VCH and it wouldn't run right. But that was because he forgot to plug one side back in. He was real embarrassed about that goof.
