I've had an iphone for several years and don't have any relevant recommendations for you other than dynolicious if you're into that sort of thing. Several people I know used gasbuddy but I don't so can't recommend either way. Definitely download a better navigation app like google maps or waze.

Just don't get a bluetooth interface to the truck... you don't need digits from the blue to fidget with your tune. I'm not saying you can "accidentally" reprogram your PCM, but I've seen the effects of jibberish on a communication network (LAN & CAN), so I wouldn't risk it on OBDII.

Rich, I routinely use by ELM bluetooth OBDII adapter, and take bluetooth calls through my head unit at the same time. No issues. With all the bluetooth and wi-fi enabled devices out there, including in our own pockets, I'd think we'd have seen issues if they were going to exist.

"gasbuddy" can be very useful when you're away from home, it really helps locating the nearest/cheapest green handled pump.

Also, a GPS app (even a free one) can serve as a useful tool from time to time.

I don't know of any iPhone supported automotive-diagnostic apps.

Fair enough. I just get all paranoid with something as old as our trucks digesting technology that didn't exist back then.

Precisely why I have two Ferrite bead chokes on the wire running to my TS chip. (one of my HID ballasts was bleeding RF and causing problems).

The primary issue is that iphone doesn't support bluetooth coms with an OBD2 plug. Here is one for iphone that uses wifi: DevToaster - Rev - iPhone app development, Great iPhone apps, and more
