Need help with exhaust!!

I have a 96 f150 with a 5.0 and I want to make it louder. I already removed the muffler and it is still really quiet, as I figured, but I did leave the 2 catalytic converters on because of emission testing. My question is will gutting the second cat make it louder or will they still detect it at emissions if I left the first cat on or would buying a high flow cat be the best bet then to a glasspack or magnaflow muffler?

I'm not sure how it is where you live, but around here you can just ram a pipe through the cat to gut it, put it back on, and it will still pass inspection. All they have to do is see the cat on the truck, they don't actually do any tests here.

alright cool I'll have to check it out and see if I could get away with that I'm just worried about the o2 sensor in between the 2 cats setting off the check engine light if I gut the cats. Did yours set off a code?

Did you have to replace both cats? (not sure if the 5.8 even has two cats or not) or did u run into any problems with the o2 sensor in between the cats?

we've got the same truck.. my truck sounds just like a mustang its very loud and still legal if you want it good tho do it right the first time... either leave the 1st small cat on and take the 2nd off or take both off and get 1 high flow cat.. either way change the pipes to 3inch instead of the 2.25 and get a dynomax bullet muffler.. it sounds great and you will love it!

I only had one cat, the big *** one. I chopped it off and haven't had any problems with the new cat. The CEL has been on but I don't think it's because of the o2

No kidding. My truck has none of the emission hooked up anymore after I put those longtubes I got from you on there.

ya it's deffinatly a pain in the *** when I think about it because if my truck was just 1 year older I'd just straight pipe it and not have this whole issue but oh well lol
