To be completely honest, ive never heard of an IDI not passing so im going to say youre good to go. Make sure you take her for a bit of a drive first and get it good and warmed up.

X2. Mine have always passed.

Just be sure it's nicely warmed up before the test, and if you get there and theres a lineup, leave it running while waiting.

Mr golf, only vehicles 25 years old or newer require an e-check in Ohio. Also only 7 of the 88 counties in Ohio require e-checks....Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Summit are the ones i do believe.

^im not from the states but ontario canada has the same rule(sort of, used to be 25 and older are exempt) now they made it any car older than 88 doenst require etest. so 87 no etest, but dont need/get historical plates.
such BS they changed the rule...its to force people to buy new cars, grrr

Mr golf, i understand you want regular plates and not historical ones. In ohio your vehicle is permanently exempt from e-checks, this i know because i own a 83 mazda rx7 and when i went to e-check her a few years back they asked me why i was there.....she was over 25 years old. My best friends son has a 1979 f250, i took him to get regular plates, no e-check required. I hope these links work....and also help.

Mr Greg50h....yes, i know this e-check is a crock and a half......and then some. I've seen oil burning cars pass that pollute more than a 100 acres of cattle, my 93 crown vic passed under half allowed with a clogged cat and one blown out....i didn't know this until a arby's bag caught on fire on the passenger floor. Last year i donated a 95 Taurus wagon ( mint green ) to the purple heart foundation just because she wouldn't pass the e-check. She was a 95 so she had the obd1 and had to have the ol wand up the rear end test, not the fly by fast test. I knew what she failed (NOx) and changed everything from the cats to the rad hoses. What really made me pull my very scarce hair out was that she got better fuel mileage than the day she rolled off the assembly line, but, she went to a good cause so that and a few beers put me at ease.

Hahaha, good stories triton. i got a 93 stang, ex 4 cyl car, with a hi comp carbed 306. Up untill this year we had rolling load dyno tests, think it blew 1300 hc ppm when limit was 600 lol. However obd1 cars now get 2 speed idle, thinkin i could clean her up for the test easily enough. Either way, horse ****!
Also i got pinched in the stang few years back for "missing emission equipment", i had open breathers and no evap canister (thankfully i had cats, thats like a 1000$ fine...), but it was cold, wet and raining out, the guy pulled me over simply because i was a young guy driving a foxbody. My car does not smoke.
friggin 10 mins later as im pulled over i see an old caravan hacking up blue smoke everywhere...what gives?!?

Mr greg50h, that car sounds like it is a blast to drive. Wow! 1300!?!?!?!?. You guys must have something different with the limits or readings. I had to take the ol crown vic to get her colonoscopy today, she blew a 36 ppm with a limit of 108. That is crazy! Police officers do not give tickets for missing equipment...that i have heard of here in my home town...They do however give tickets for being loud, but you basically need to be running open headers before they bother you.
