yes. i had a 1973 crew cab with long box with only one 18 gallon rear gas tank. we called north 40 because it felt like you needed 40 acres to make a u turn.
when I parked down down. I had to pay for two parking meters spots. yes I found that out the hard way

All 4wd crews were shortbed from the factory. Any 4wd longbed crew was home built.
So to answer the original question of rare or not that would be no. While crews are getting harder to find they are not rare.

I once saw a beat, rusted out, 1979, F350 Crew cab 4X4 longbox. Was it a conversion? I don't know.

Yes as I have already said all 4wd crews were shortbeds. Also all 4wd crews were only built on a 250 chassis, never a 350.

That truck was also said to be a 460, no 1979 4x4s came from the factory with a 460, so that must have been converted also.

One of my neighbors had a longbed crewcab. Also, the truck is in Canada, and they can probably get things that we can't down here.

Ford did make crew cab long beds, but I don't think they ever made them in 4x4.

Nanaimo?! Thats funny, my dad lived in Nanimo for a bit while his home in Cedar was being built.
Nice place.
Looks like the druggies hang out by the marina though.
