Single mass flywheel noise help!? Please

I converted my dm flywheel to sm and I'm hearing a lot of gear roll over, is there anyway to get rid of this because its really loud and obnoxious if anyone knows how to quiet it down let me know and the noise goes away when I'm at a higher rpm, is it safe to turn my idle up to about 650rpms?

I drained tranny and transfer case. Refilled with Redline D4 Atf. Next I bought sound dampening material and installed it throughout the cab under the carpet. Third I increased my idle too 700 rpm.

Now I hardly notice it at all for going on 5 yrs. now. Lots of guys have tried thicker oils.etc..but the tranny does call for atf...or synthetic atf...your choice...

Good Luck

Some over-fill the tranny by 1/2 qt or something and say it helps, however you have to add it through the top via the shifter.

Adding Extra Fluid

Yes you can add a little extra via the top, but I didn't do that. Knowing my luck if I did that the extra would get forced out into the bell housing and get all over my nice clutch...LOL No...really I tried up to a full extra quart and it didn't seem to help much so I went with sound dampening and higher idle...That did the trick and really made the truck less noisy especially if you glue some inside the doors behind the glass on the metal door skin...

What did you set your idle rpms at? And how do you adjust the idle speed? And what did you use as the noise dampeners?

Setting Idle

On my pump there is a screw on the left side of the pump looking from front of engine. I just screwed mine in until tachometer showed 700 rpm...didn't take many turns.

I just bought believe it or not was a moving blanket from Harbor Freight. It was 72" X 80"...I got 2 of them on sale at $5.99 each. I used one for the firewall/cab which went back as far as the front of the back seat on my extended cab.

The other one I used for inside the doors. I epoxied these little nail things that had a square base on them to the metal on the door. Then cut pieces to fit and spray glued the pieces and stuck it on the door with the little nails sticking thru...After that I put the little round keeper clips on the little nails and pushed them up tight. I got those at home depot. I did that to make sure that if the glue gave up the ghost the little nail holders would keep the blanket in place.

All of the suggestions are things that people have done, and they can work. Yes you can turn the idle up to whatever you want.
If you want more, then search, as its been covered many times....

Just drive around with the clutch pushed in, that should keep it nice and quiet for you.
