I just recently bought my 04 Expedition. When I purchased the vehicle, they only gave me one key. I need another key and would also like to purchase a third in the future. From what I have read, a second needs to be coded different than any keys past the first and second. Is this true. Is there a way I can program the key or does it have to be taken to a dealership.
You dont need to get bent over at the dealer. I would buy the keys online (go ahead and get 2 if you want) and call a few locksmiths. I had a dude in a van code my keys for less than 50bux.
I bought a couple of blanks for my old Expedition and never had them cut. I think I am going to go to walmart and have them sell me a programmed cut key and see if he'll cut two more from my blanks.
If you are using blanks meant for a different year than what you have they may not work. I would check before having them cut.
You are correct. I bought them for my 98 and now intend to use them on my 2000. I'll double check that they use the same blank. I assume I can just have the key cutter look up both years and see if it calls for the same blank.
