94 f150 4.9L 204K miles e40d problem

Hi. New here...Daughters 94 f150 started leaking transmission fluid from the bell housing, so she parked it for 2 years...Now I have been nominated to fix it...
Truck was running good when parked. Got it started (Just charged battery and started it up), and backed it up. Reverse is good and solid. When I tried to move it, it wouldn't move in drive. Starts to engage, then drops out. Pulled into first, and the truck moves, but have to have high rpm.
Replaced tc seal, filter and fluid, (12 quarts). No change... Ran it down the road, had to start off in first, good power up to about 35, shifted to second, it shifted...ran up to 45, then shifted into drive, it shifted, and maintained power. Had to slow so stopped and turned around, tried moving out in drive, and it just kept dropping out. Returned home as I left...read a lot of this forum, and learned some but not enough..
Pulled codes 327,116,536,538. No transmission codes.
Any ideas?????Thanks in advance.

Most or all of of the codes you have seem to be down to operator error.
Also, if E4OD, need around 16qts of fluid not 12qts.

Thanks for the response Lazy K...Did not drain tc, and trans was full at 12 qts...
even if the codes were op error (and mostly expected) is there anything that this tells you about the transmission not operating in drive??? Thanks

Fair enough on fluid.
Unfortunately not a trans expert but first thought was hardened seals in forward clutch servo or bad transmission range sensor (on drivers side of trans under the manual shift lever).
Hopefully other opinions will follow soon.

Thanks again Lazy K.. I just cleaned the valve body...little dirty but nothing stuck...No changes on road test...I'll keep trying until I replace it if unable to fix it.

I suspect a bad seal in the forward clutch. I'm not sure what a forward clutch servo would be or what it would do.

I will have to agree with Mark, sounds like a weak and/or leaking Forward clutch.

The Forward clutch applies for every Forward gear on this transmission.
According to my ATSG repair manual, with the gear selector in Low 1st, in addition to the Forward clutch, the transmission also applies Coast clutch and the Reverse clutch. in Low 2nd gear, the Coast clutch Intermediate clutch, Forward clutch and intermediate band are applied, also In Low 2nd the low/reverse OWC is over-running.

Hi again..Thanks for the information..Not what I wanted to hear, but, since I have neither the tools nor knowledge to attack that, I guess I'll try to find a replacemant..
I'll probibly have more questions later...(fair warning?)

wait a minute... the truck is an F-150? with a 4.9L inline 6Cyl? I wasn't aware those came with E40D transmissions.

are you sure its not an AODE?

The trans code is E, which equates to an e40d according to what I have been able to find out...Could be something else,??? Thanks Deezal
After looking at your id page, its an e40d 20 bolt pan (Thats the gasket I put on anyway)

F-150/4.9L was an E4OD, not an AODE.
