94 Bronco E4OD probs...

My buddy was driving his 94 pulling a boat, when the truck stopped moving. He said the tranny was slipping. I was wondering if anyone knew of sensor on the tranny or if think is internal prob? Will not move in Fwd or Reverse.

Have you checked the fluid level and condition? Also pull codes? If the trans (or converter) are slipping, it throw codes?

There is a input sprag in the trans that all the power goes through to drive the trans. Have him try it in 4 high and 4 low and with the overdrive off this will help to eliminate some parts in the line of power. When you turn off the O.D. in the E4OD before 96 it turns on the coast clutch which helps the input sprag turn the rest of the trans.

P.S. it is best to tow with out O.D.. drive uses less parts in the trans and make less heat.

Unhappy

sounds like he burnSounds like he burned up the forward clutch pack. Only fix is a overhaul. Tell him to look for a ATRA shop there
http://www.atra.com/source/amembers/...searchtype=reb . Good warranty and then check the BBB for complaints on the shop he picks.

I have had mine act up twice and I thought I toasted it. Once was the TPS on the throttle body, and the other was the MLP switch.
