UGH!!! Hutch mod issues in my X...
So I am in the middle of doing the hutch mod. My tank is dropped and opened, however my pickup doesnt look like the one in the picture on Guzzle's site. Everyone on here with an X is saying that there is no difference between a 250, 350, or an X tank. Mine doesnt match up and feels like it is attached to the bottom of the tank because I cant pull it out. There are corrugated plastic hoses connecting the top of the sending unit to the possible mixing bowl on the bottom of the tank.
I'll post pictures shortly and could use some advice ASAP.
Thanks

Hmmmm.... Return in the same housing as the pickup, fuel pump in the tank, mystery mesh in a tube... I'd be tempted to find a truck on CL that's being parted out and aquire a pickup assembly. Or... you might find something online that's reasonably priced. Why would I pull it? You have no control over what goes on in there and fuel pumps don't die in the garage - they die 200 mile from home. If I had a known item in the tank and an external prefilter and pump, I'd feel more comfortable.
I just ordered my fuel pre-filter/water separator yesterday.

Ugh well it looks like I found the problem and this was what I was worried about. Apparently my Excursion is a "California Vehicle" I had this same issue with a glow plug relay issue I had some time ago and wondered why my relay was different than most peoples truck. Well I live in NJ not in California (bought the truck from Texas) and I sure as hell am not buying a $500 sending unit!

I was going to do the Harpoon/Hutch mod, because of having a fuel delivery issue and a lack of power under heavy load, and a drop in fuel pressure with a rough idle when the problem accured. I was assuming that either I had a pinched line, the lift pump, or air in the lines. So I have replaced the lift pump and I was getting ready to do these mods until I stumbled across this in my tank. Then I was just like FML!
When I pulled this sending unit out of the tank, I tried to plug it back into the harness and turn the key on, and nothing. So I supplied some power to it directly and yes there is a pump in that pick up and it did work. I guess it's a helper pump to the lift pump. I don't know why it wasnt working on the harness. It was late last night and dark so I wrapped things up and figured I would work on it today and dive deeper into the problem.
The truck is 12 years old. The pick up may be going bad. I know, I had problems with the sending unit portion of the pick up like 2 years ago. I went into the tank moved it around a little bit and it has been working ever since. I also alot of the parts on this pick up that are steel are rusted, which is not good. So I'll probably end up buying a new one anyways. I already bought a new lift pump and that didn't help.

Oh and one more thing, I don't know why it's listed under the 2001 F250 Super Duty. Everywhere I go looking for the sending unit for my truck "2000 Excursion 7.3" doesn't even have an option for the sending unit and only has the lift pumps to choose from.
What scares me is that in the picture those sending units have two pig tails on them. Mine only has one. This is getting very confusing. I spent 3 hours last night researching trying to find the right part and about 2 hours this morning and I haven't found anything.
The one ChunderDownUnder found here:

It has the two pig tails, one 3 pin and one 7 pin. My truck has one pig tail and it's a 4 pin.
