trans cooler lines - new cooler??

I'm replacing the radiator this weekend - and in doing so - hooking up the transmission cooler (that the PO had disconnected). SO, is there a "feed" or "return" side?

Is there a specific trans line I should plumb to the cooler? Or will either do the job?

To be totally clear; my truck currently only has a trucool trans cooler - all factory coolers were deleted by the previous owner. I will be re-introducing the radiator/transmission cooler.

Thanks All

The line from the front of the trans goes to the radiator cooler, either side. The other side of the radiator cooler goes to the aux cooler. The outlet of the aux cooler goes to the rear of the trans.

just curious, why are you replacing your radiator? age, leaking at end caps?
I have a 02 and am strongly thinking about replacing mine as well as new water pump

I need the OTW cooler hooked up, and I don't trust cleaning the contaminated unit in the radiator. The way I see it, the only way to have the OTW cooler back is to replace the rad.

the bottom few rows in the radiator are for the trans, Ford goes into the radiator then out to the trans cooler and then back to the transmission. I wonder why the guy would remove all the factory stuff for? thats very odd......

I bought this truck a few months back - one of the selling points was a HUGE pile of service / repair receipts. One of them was for a Transmission R&R about a year ago. I think the trans shop deleted the factory coolers do to contamination.
The receipt also had "transmission oil cooler" on it. Of course, it was the wrong one, I've already replaced it with a TruCool - but it still needs the OTW rad cooler.

That's not how it works. The bottom few rows are for engine coolant, just like all the rows above it.

The transmission cooler is inside the cool end tank. The trans cooler lines go in and out of this tank.

FOLLOW UP:

Mark, I've got the new radiator installed, and the Trans lines plumbed the way you've instructed.
I'm now running from the front of the Trans, to the radiator, then to the grill mounted aux cooler, and back to the rear of the trans. The factory trans cooler (low in the bumper) is still not hooked up.

Temps were around 130* at idle, before driving. Test drove (empty/no trailer or heavy load) about 15 or so miles in 91* ambient air, a decent mixture of traffic - no speeds above 45. The trans temp reached 176* or so.

I'm monitering via OBD with an Aeroforce Interceptor scan gauge (I don't know where it gets its readings).

It gets it's readings from a sensor on the solenoid body. That's inside the pan.

Thanks Mark.
I'll re-check the fluid level tomorrow. I thought the temps were going to be lower than 170's, especially without a heavy load on the truck.

Mark,
Do you know what the capacity of the OTW radiator/cooler is?
Also, have you ever heard of internal failures - resulting in cross contamination of coolant and transmission fluid? Is it possible?
I've never seen inside the radiator/OTW cooler construction.

What do you mean by capacity? BTU/hr? It's been too many years for me to remember that.

Internal failures are possible. That will result in cross contamination.

The transmission cooler is coiled tubing inside the cold side tank.

Sorry, I meant fluid capacity. Less than a quart?
