Smacked it and it works! but why?

95 F350 351 with EO4D........I was driving down the road and noticed the speedometer wasn't working and the odometer was blank. All the other gauges were working fine. I smacked the instrument cluster lightly one time (I don't know why, just a habit from growing up with old CRT TV's) and both have worked fine since. The truck has never done this before and it was working when I started up the truck. I searched the forum and this seems to be a common complaint.......but if it were the common issues of the VSS or PSOM why would smacking the cluster fix it ( at least for now )? Thanks guys.

FORDF250HDXLT thanks so much! And thanks for posting the links. I am not great with computers so going the extra step to find those and post them is a big help. I will attempt the fix tomorrow.
