idle controller

my truck idles for extended periods, I have looked around and found that i may need an idle controller to makeit idle up, plus driving outwest and stuck in traffic that has come to a stop and would like to idle it up so the ac will stay cool and not built too much head pressure in the a/c system, my question is where can i find a ilde controller? thanks for any info.

You can get the big ugly factory one from ford for $300-400, or you can get an aftermarket one for a little over $100 or you can build your own (the option I chose) for less than $10.

Will your AIC concept work with the 1996 trucks, or just for the newer ones?

Thank you. This is the most comprehensive set of instructions I have ever seen - So well presented even I can generate confidence to cut wires..

I will get the bits, and let you all know.

Hello,

Would there be any adverse affects on my engine if I start my truck with an AIC engaged?

I have a 3rd battery installed in my toolbox to run a power inverter. I use the timer function on my remote start system to start the truck to keep that 3rd battery charged up. When running at an idle, it doesn't charge fast enough. Will it hurt my engine to start it with the AIC engaged to charge the battery faster. I know it won't be a super change in charging time but every little bit helps.

Thanks,
1LT Anthony Somma

The AIC availible from Ford has a delay before it idles up the engine, about 5 seconds or so. I don't know about the others.

The CTI idle controller that I have is turned on and set manually, not by the pcm.

It will smoke like a freight train while it's starting up, but won't hurt anything, as long as you don't have it set so high the CP's (cylinder pressures) go crazy. 1100-1200 rpm won't hurt anything.
