I'm picking up a chassis this weekend that has the Dayton disk front end on it, and I'm wondering about using that front under my truck.
I have read that the Dayton calipers don't fit in 16" wheels, only the 16.5s, and I've repeated that myself a few times, but has anyone actually tried it themselves? I have 80s 16" Ford wheels now.
I've fit 16" wheels over them no problem. It's tight, but they fit. The rims I have are off an 80 chevy K20, but dodge rims fit to. I have a ford rim, I should try it on there sometime, but I've been busy with the motor.
I'll try it this Saturday after I pick it up. There's a spare rim with a shredded tire sitting out back. I figure worst case I might be able to use them with a little grinding, but if they'll fit then great. If not, then I'm sure someone else can use them.
Ok, I don't know who started the "16inch wheels don't clear Dayton calipers" thing, but I have a pair sitting out back that clear by a mile. You could almost fit 15s over them.
So, officially, yes stock 16s do clear the Dayton twin piston calipers.
My '72 F250 has the duel piston calipers (I think Dayton) and has always had 16" rims on it. My 68 with front drums will not fit 16" rims. Needs the 16.5"
