Do they make 15inch 8 lug rim's for older ford pickup's 1987 250 4x4. What would be any disadvantage??? This truck only see's road use no off road. Only reason i ask is if i get better price on 15inch Thank's
Ivan's right. I had a set of 15x10 steel white-spoke wheels with the 8 on 6.5 pattern for my 74 F200 (yes, 200...5/8 ton) but it had 12" drums all the way around and they fit well. Here's the kicker:
Would not fit on the front of a 77-up Ford w/disk brakes, but would fit on the rear of any of them with drums.
WOULD fit the front of a 98 Dodge Cummins, but WOULD NOT fit over the rear drums.....
The 2-5/8 bs rims do work, and they're fine on 60s. The problem on the 44s is that they tend to wear wheel bearings out quickly. Double quick if your rig sees any mud or water. Grinding the calipers works, I've seen it many times. I worry about doing it, so have never tried it personally. Why not take the money for the 15" rims, sell the 15" tires, and put them toward 16" or 16.5 stuff?
I'm running 3" backspacing and let me tell you those suckers stick WAY out there. This causes legality issues pretty much anywhere you are if you drive on the street. On top of the strain on wheel bearings it's also more load on the kingpins or balljoints. When I changed from 4 5/8" backspacing to 3" it gave me a whole new set of problems to solve in terms of stress on the front end. For the few $$ in savings that a 15" rim will give you it's not worth all the other hassle.
