Engine Cleaning

I own an '07 SCrew with the 5.4L V8. The engine is very dusty and I want to clean it. Any advice on the best way to do this and any areas that I need to avoid getting wet is appreciated. thanks

I hose most of it down, fairly regularly. I just stay away from the battery and computer. And when I'm all done I fire up the backpack blower and blow dry the motor

spray a 50/50 mix of simple green/water- being carefull to avoid heavy application to any e-connectors. Rinse with hot tap water, apply using an engine cleaning gun that hooks to your air compressor, low water GPM and high pressure to create more of a steam like application....again, avoid e-connections.

Start engine immediately upon completion & bring up to operating temp...although you will see most of the moisture evaporate this will ensure complete drying of all components.

I hose down the engine regularly and I cover the brake and power steering bottles with plastic bags. Avoid the computer and the alternator. Start the engine up and take it for a short run to dry up all the moisture.

I am not looking for a perfect detail job so I just use garden hose to wash.

Good luck

The main issue is filling the spark plug tubes up with water which kills the cop's.

I found out the hard way. I'd never wash my engine again.
