solenoid killer

Howdy, I have had to replace solenoids (several so far) and it is getting old. Is there anything that could be repeadedly causing them to go bad. I know it is kind of a broad question, but send me in the right direction or tell me what else you need to know. I appreciate all the input,

thanks
Boomer

A starter in it's way out can destroy solenoids. As can corroded/ bad battery and starter cables.

Bad cables and starters as stated above will roach a solinoid in seconds. They usually emit the magical blue electric smoke.

Are you buying good ones or the cheap ones ? I gave up on the cheap ones.

The insulation on my starter cable was in bad shape and sometimes would ground out to the frame. This roasted mine.

All good advice above. Bad cables/connections, bad starter, cheap solenoids. Don't buy the $9.99 version.

Ditto. I had a starter that worked and sounded ok but was pulling so much current I fried three solenoids in a row. New starter fixed no dying solenoid problem.

Got a way to measure the inrush current on your starter? Current gets too high it welds the contacts together or arc-pits the contacts so much the make poor contact.
