Painting frame

I want to paint the frame on my 88 f250. What would be the best way to do this. I have the bed off to make it easier. Somebody told me i could use por15 and paint right over the rust. Is that a good idea or not?

I know from reading that you need to prep the frame when using por 15, as well as any other product.

I am doing a f150 frame, and what I am doing is wire wheeling the hell out of every nook and cranny I can get into, wire brushing/scraping everywhere else the wheels wont get too. Then my plan is to shoot primer on, then to shoot tremclad on, and do 2 coats of tremclad.

Ive debated using por 15, but decided I want to do the tremclad route, cause the truck I am building is just a "nice looking farm truck" and I originally was not going to paint the frame at all!

I used Chassis Saver, which is basically the same thing as POR15. If you are going to use primer, make sure it is a two part epoxy primer. I put two coats of Chassis Saver, then a coat of Rustoleum Gloss Black paint. I used the gloss black because the Chassis Saver that I used was a matte finish. That way I could tell what I had painted. I live in the south and I mainly use my truck for camping in the spring and summer. The truck is not a daily driver, nor is it a show truck. I just wanted it to last another 30 years. I have some pictures of the frame work here; https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...build-log.html

I am going to sandblast(media like walnut shells or ect) my frame for my 84 F250 and use either POR15 or Chassis saver. Once done with the 84, the 89 F250 will get the the same done to it as now I need it for my 5th wheel RV I just got.....
