I have a 51 F1 and am looking for a frame paint that I can roll/brush on. I was talking to someone a while ago and he suggested something but I can,t remember the name, POR or PRP or something like that. I was originally going to powdercoat it but now want to do something that doesn't cost as much. Any suggestions?
Also, would a lap wheel be the best way to prep the frame and knock off the rust?
I paint my 52 frame with POR-15 and used a brush. It went on easy and has a nice gloss to it. You can get it in gloss black, satin black, and silver. I went with gloss black. It came out nice. I paid $42 for a quart so it is expensive but worth the protection it gives. It also dries pretty quickly also. Good Luck
You can grind...sand...wire brush....sandblast....die grind.....or send it out for work.....as long as the frame gets paint ready......and por 15/chassis saver/eastwoods coating/epoxy primer or whatever you want......it is alot of work...but will be worth it...GOOD LUCK
i was curious about that too yelosub79, i found a list of dealers. that is the full list i believe. i have never used POR-15 but have herd alot of good things about it. it looks like you'll have to order it straight from them, unless you live close to one of there dealers, most of them are in texas.
My local auto paint shop carries por15 and all of their other products. Even if you brush it on, wear a resperator just like you would if you were spraying it. The fumes are very bad for you.
I used it on my frame and it turned out nice. I used the regular black POR 15 then went over it with their semi gloss chassis black. I ordered mine from a dealer on ebay and got it within a few days. My frame had a lot of surface rust and a few areas that had some pitting. It took days of work to get it prepped (sanded) for paint and I still felt like I should have sanded more. Depending on the cost if I had it to do over again I probably would have taken my rolling frame to someone and let them blast it for me. Ive heard you can find people to do it for around three or four hundred bucks but it will save you a lot of work and time. Hope this helps.
