Oil Filter Clearance Problem 351M to 460 swap in 1979 4x4 F-100
Hello,
I am swapping a 1987 460 into my 1979 4x4 F-100 short bed, that has the 351M in it now. Truck has about 4" lift with 33's
Will i have clearance problems with the oil filter located how it is with the frame?
I have pictures but do not know how to post them.
The oil filter points forward 45degrees and is 90 degrees to the block
Has anyone ran into this issue before... I know relocation kits exist but only want to buy one if thats my only chance.
THANKS..

The older 460's had the filter coming out of the side of the block (mounted right to where that adapter is on yours). Can you eliminate that adapter that changes it to the 45 degree angle on the newer style block? If that is do-able, you may need to use an old style filter? I put an early 460 in my '79 f350 4x4 and didn't have any trouble with the filter that was mounted to the side of the block. I haven't messed with any big blocks that new, but it might be worth a look.

FYI: I ran into the same sort of issue when I retrofitted the 79 Bronco integral PS system on my 73. 'Discovered that a FRAM PH16 is a couple of inches shorter than a PH8 (Motorcraft FL1A or equivalent) - enough to clear the steering box.
2x with simply removing the 90-degree adapter shown in the pic. Looks like a donkey's ****** hanging out in free space.... LOL.

Thank you for your help.
I will remove the adapter and hopefully the filter will just screw right on. If not, Does anyone know how redily available the parts would be to make it screw directly onto the block. I haven't asked my trusty napa guys yet about this part as they are the old school type auto parts guys...and they help alot.
