will the 89' auto trans work in a 91'?

My 89 has a manuel od shift while the 91 is a button on the dash. Can I swap the trans and just use 1-2-D like 1-D-O/D?

You CAN swap them, and the truck should drive, however I'm not sure if OD would work properly. Might be able to wire up a toggle switch to make the TCC/OD work.

Might wanna check on crossmember differences and lengths. So you can make sure your driveshafts are gonna work.

Sounds like you are swapping an AOD trans for an E4OD. The problem is that the E4OD is computer controlled so you would need to swap in the trans wiring harness and a computer to control it.

LOL It's gonna take a little more than that. Lazy K has it... you need the correct computer and harness for your engine/trans combination.

E4OD is a button on the shift lever. I thought he meant on the dash like a push button 4wd.

I think he's trying to put in an AODE not as bad as an E4OD but still no easy (read cheap) swap.

Early E4OD's had the O/D button on the dash. OP is trying to go from an AOD to an E4OD.

E4OD - 89-91 was a button on the dash right hand side of steering column.

92+ on the column shifter.

The EFI trucks with E4OD's had 1 computer controling both engine AND tranny.

Your 89 has it's own engine computer.

I've heard of people using E4OD computers off older Diesels as those work by them self (engine has no computer).

Or you can get one of those aftermarket stand alone computers i've read about?

I think in the end it'd be easier to just fix your trucks transmission or find an older C4-C6 and convert to that if you want a different transmission without spending alot.

Back to thinking this through. So the harness goes into the fuse box? If so I can swap the entire harness and colum correct? Would I also need to swap dash cluster?
