trans swap?
i have a 1989 F-250 2wdr with a 5.8 engine the trans has gone out i'm wondering what trans i can use it now has a electtronic over drive 1500 dollars for a rebuild i dont care about the overdrive just need something more afordable would a c6 work without a lot of rigging? thanks for any information

Are you sure you have the E4OD? I didn't think it was available until later. If you do, the computer will expect there to be able to talk to the E4OD and won't run right if it can't. So you'll need to swap in a computer to match whatever tranny you go with.

It sounds like you have the E40D. You could probably switch something else in there, but like mentioned before the engine might not run perfect or at the very least you would have a constant check engine light. So a computer change and tranny or you might look on ebay, I've seen replacement E40D's for around 900 bucks. I think the place was Phoenix transmission. Don't know anything about them but the price sounds right. Plus if you swap to a different model, chances are you'll have to change drivelines and crossmembers, mounts, linkage, etc.
