i was thinking about swapping my 302 to a 351 and swapping my trans from a E40D(auto) to a AOD(man). with as least as possible computer controlled. how hard do yall think this would be?
Well the engine swap is a positive but the trans swap is a negative. The aod is a weak replacement for the E4OD and the E4OD is more common with the 5.8 so finding a computer and wiring for it would be easier. If you are determined to do this, I would suggest getting an engine and trans from an 87-89 truck as you will be back dating your truck to get the product you are wanting. I think it would be easier to purchase an older version of what you want than tring to do this swap.
Ford changed the e40d I think in 94 sometime. They made some improvements that made it a lot better. You could either try to find one of those or have yours rebuilt to those specifications.
The HO (high output) 302's only came in cars (mustang, T-Bird ect...), your 302 is not an HO. The 302 computer will run the 351 but it will run in an unsafe lean condition. The computer doesn't care what the firing order is since it is a batch fire system. Find a 351 computer, go to www.fordfuelinjection.com and click on ECC program codes to get the # for the ecm you need to find.
