390 w C6 into 51 Ford F1 ????

i was wondering if anyone out there could help me on how to put a 390 with a c6 trans into a 1951 ford f1? i have been searching for a kit on the internet but have had no luck. is there a kit that exists and where could i find it. or will i just have to create something to hold up my 390. any info on how to do it , where to find parts, how hard it would be, and if i should be doing it would be appreciated. thanks a lot and if you could please email me at bhauna89@hotmail.com or i will hopefully get around to checking this soon. thanks again

It can be done. The F-1 engine compartment will certainly accept it but you may have to make your own engine mounts and if you keep the original steering box you may have to get creative with exhaust manifolds or headers....

I'm sure there are others if you do a search for FE or 390 in an F1. I saw an F2 a couple of years ago with a 390 adapted to the stock trans.

Beerninja is a new user and has the setup you might be interested in looking at....here's a thread with a pic of the 390 with the front clip removed: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...k-intro-2.html

I dont think the stock springs on the F1 will handle the weight. You can put F2 springs in the front and they will handle the weight. There is plenty of room in the engine compartment except for the steering box, as mentioned.

Springs should not be a problem. Believe it or not a 390 and a Ford flathead V8 are within 25-50 pounds of the same weight...somewhere around 550 pounds. The C6 will be heavier, however, but not enough to cause a problem I would not think.

In mine I used a mustang II front out of a '74 and the heaviest coils Pro Shocks has. As for mounting the engine, there is a tube crossmember that you cut to length and weld on the supplied mounting plates. To get the engine located where I needed it to be I made mounting plates that doubled to box in the frame I still have the pattern and can send pics with dimensions if you would like. As for the tranny mount I made a crossmember out of 1.25" box tubing but you can buy them and the FE engine mount from several dealers such as speedway motors.

Its not always just the weight. It is how the weight is distributed. If the 390's and tranny's weight is going to be more forward than the original flathead, you would want heavier springs than original.

Or put a modern front suspension on like most people seem to do.
