IPR Screen Damage

Truck died on the interstate. Towed to dealership where they find damage to the IPR screen. They replaced the IPR and the truck ran fine. I drove about 150 miles home, shut off the truck and it hasnt started since. Took the IPR back out and it looks fine. They say the damage to the IPR to start with was probably caused by the screen below the oil cooler breaking apart and getting into the system. I took the oil cooler out and the screen was fine. What else could get into the system and cause damage to the IPR screen? HPOP?

It would be nice to know what year truck it is. Also if you have any mods or if there was any recent work done on it ...........

Could be the HPOP. Have you tried unplugging the ICP sensor to see if it starts? Doing this tricks the computer into thinking there is enough pressure coming from the HPOP. If this works, replace the ICP... if not... might be time to look at the HPOP, but the fact that YOU shut it down and it didn't die on it's own, kinda makes me think it's not the HPOP, but then you never know, I've heard of stranger things. Checked your oil level lately?

Sorry the truck is a 2006 with 100700 miles on it! Just out of warranty. It has had no modifications. I unplugged the ICP and it still would not start. Mechanic at the Ford dealership says now it looks like the HPOP. Where can I get a good deal on one. Ford wants $820. If its not the HPOP what else could have put debris in the system and damaged the IPR

Did you replace the screen while you were in there?

It would be good to know if there was a specific code thrown.

A bad HPOP could be the issue, but the later model HPOPs were generally pretty reliable.

The IPR could just have had lint on it from the oil filter. Did you see the original IPR that they removed? I wonder if you really don't have an issue w/ the STC fitting or dummy plugs/stand pipes - instead of the HPOP.

I would bet it is a leak in one of the components I mentioned and nothing else.

ok but what would have damaged the first ipr? The mechanic said the screen on it was damaged like something had hit it and pushed it in.

Install the one-piece replacement for the STC fitting and dummy plugs. Maybe even get new standpipes also.

I would have liked to have seen the IPR screen.

seeing an ipr valve get trashed from time to time is not uncommon. it happens. IMO bismic is on the money. we just dont see a large numer of pump failing on 05+ trucks. I dont think i have done one in about a year.

Where can I get the fitting to screw into the valve cover in place of the ICP in order to do the pressure test?
