DON'T DO IT!!!! Monos suck. I ran them for 3 years and they were VERY stiff to start with...then got so soft I was bottoming out on the frame bumpers. Any spring that CHANGES is a bad news to me. Stock springs don't change...that's a hint.

I installed Mid Fifties Low and Smooth rear springs and have never had such a nice ride.

but then again i have a chrysler voyager (caravan) and it has mono leaves that have never been a problem, even with towing HEAVY loads on a car trailer. Perhaps aftermarket monos arent as good as OEMs? John

So randy, was it the MF springs you didn't like, or were they later?

I will be installing MF Low and Smooth Rear Springs later this spring. I have communicated with several people (including Randy) that confirmed the MF springs are the way to go. Several of these individuals first ran dearched rear springs with every other leaf taken out (my current setup). Next, they tried the monos feeling that they were too stiff. Finally, they installed the MF springs and really like the ride quality. I will soon find out.

My .02 here. I read a tech article that just said this. With multiple leafs if one or a couple break for some reason your not stuck. With mono leafs your hosed. Just my .02

I would think that as thick as they are they would be difficult to break. I am concerned that if I opt for the low and smooths, my rear may be too low in relation to the front, even with the dropped spindles I have on. (Volare) Currently, My rears are every other leaf removed. The rear ride is....harsh.

This Eaton article says it all, IMO; GM spent a bunch of money designing and testing the factory monos, but aftermarket -- who knows? Copy of something? Looks about right? Roll the dice.

I've got the Sacramento Vintage Ford stock eye mono leafs on the front of my 58 and they work just fine. I wanted to go lower and first tried the reversed eye monos, but I was resting on the already significantly trimmed in height rubber snubbers--just no travel, so I couldn't use them. But I have a heavy motor and tranny/ 460ci-C6 and I suppose that adds to all. And I've got a 4 link with coil overs in the rear so I don't know about rear monos etc, but so far the front work just great for me. I don't have a ton of miles on them probably 2000? maybe less/I'm not sure/no odometer. I see someone had a problem in that they didn't maintain their stiffness etc or. But these seem fine to me/not too stiff or? Work good. But I just cruise around easy/just a hot rod truck/not hauling anything etc. I bought mine at Sacramento Vintage Ford and I don't know if the same person is making all of them or not? But so far these hanlde just fine--no complaints.

The rear being too low is an easy fix. Just add spacer blocks between the axle and spring to bring the truck up to the desired height. My preference would be that over running the monos.
