Ford F-150: Fuel Pump Reviews

If you are looking for a new fuel pump for your Ford F-150 truck, look no further. We've investigated the most popular brands to help you choose the right one for you!

This article applies to the Ford F-150 (2004-2014).

Without your fuel pump, you're going nowhere and you're getting there fast. Symptoms of a bad fuel pump can include your F-150 stopping as if it was out of gas, misfiring, or even exhibiting lean codes (too much oxygen in the exhaust) when it's not pumping as much as it should. Depending on your truck's year, the fuel pump will either sit on the frame rail, or more than likely be in the fuel tank. Replacing a fuel pump isn't the easiest of tasks so I recommend spending a little bit extra to get a quality replacement so you only have to do the task once.

The Spectra fuel pump is your average on-a-budget pump. It'll get the job done, but it's lifespan can be hit or miss. I've read reviews where they've lasted ten years and reviews where they died within 10k miles. I'd recommend this pump if you need something right away and this is the only one your local store has in stock or if you are just on a very tight budget, but for those who are looking for lifespan I'd stay away. The lifespan is just too much of a gamble. Luckily it has a limited lifetime warranty, but it still means you'll have to replace it again.

Motorcraft

Price: $298

Warranty: 1 Year Limited

Life Span: Long

Motorcraft should be the go-to brand if your wallet allows. This is what came on your truck from the factory and there's a good reason for it. While this is probably the most expensive OEM replacement pump, it will also give you both the best lifespan and the most worry-free life. Even though Motorcraft doesn't offer an lifetime warranty, the fuel pump is rated at 10 years/150k miles. I'd highly recommend this pump to those who can afford the extra it cost.

Airtex

Price: $270

Warranty: Limited Lifetime

Life Span: Short

Recommended: No

Similar to Spectra, this is your average budget brand. I've seen both good and bad reviews on these, with a lot of bad reviews towards the pumps quality assurance where they would burn out within a week. You get a lifetime warranty with them, so if you don't mind doing the work if it burns out fast you can save a bit of money. If you need something that you can install and forget about, you'd be taking a gamble with this one. I'd recommend it the same as I did Spectra, if it's what your local parts store has in stock and you need it then buy it.

Bosch

Price: $303

Warranty: 1 Year Limited

Life Span: Medium

Recommended: Yes

I'd place Bosch in between OEM quality and a budget brand. Bosch makes good quality products that may not last you as long as OEM, but will be more hassle free than Spectra or Airtex. I have, however, seen people buy a Bosch pump, but when they opened the box they found a re-branded no-name product in the box instead. As long as it's a true Bosch fuel pump in the box, you should be okay. I'd recommend these to the people who can't afford OEM, yet have the extra money to avoid getting a low budget brand.
