Ford F150 F250: Upper Radiator Hose Reviews

When you decide it's time to replace the upper radiator hose on your Ford F-150 or Super Duty truck, you will be faced with a lot of options. Here are the most popular brands in detail.

By Pizzaman711 - September 17, 2014

This article applies to the Ford F-150 (2004-2014) and F-250 Super Duty (2005-2014).

The upper radiator hose is more prone to breaking and cracking than the lower hose, and with the OEM hoses having an expected lifetime of around 4-8 years, eventually it will need replacing. The upper radiator hose is exposed to the most heat fluctuation due to it returning the hot coolant back to the radiator. This hose is prone to cracking, soft spotting, and even collapsing. Failure to replace a bad hose could cost you your motor, so when it comes time to replace it, use a quality piece from a reputable brand. The brands being covered in this article are HPS, Mishimoto, Motorcraft, and Goodyear.

While these may not be the cheapest hoses on the market, you definitely get what you pay for. The upper radiator hoses are a great upgrade over the OEM rubber hoses due to the vast temperature range and the silicon used to make them. Silicon is stronger, more flexible, and has a better lifespan than rubber making it a great upgrade for those who plan to keep their vehicle for a long time. These hoses are direct fit and the kits include stainless steel mounting clamps. I recommend these for those who plan to keep their vehicles a long time.

Mishimoto

Price: $33

Looks: Three Colors Offered

Constructed Of: Dual Layer Silicon and Heat-Resistant Fibers

Temperature Range: -50 to 330 deg. F

Fitment: Direct replacement

Mishimoto is another great brand that ranks right up there with HPS. While you don't get as many color options and quite as high of a temperature range, the quality is very close to the same. These hoses offer all the same features HPS does including higher flexibility, stronger, and longer lasting. These are direct fit like the other two brands as well, which means no worrying about cutting a hose too short. I recommend these hoses to those who want to keep their vehicles a long time and don't need all the color options HPS offers.

Motorcraft

Price: $43

Looks: Standard Black

Constructed Of: EPDM Rubber over Braided Construction

Temperature Range: 240 deg. F

Fitment: Direct replacement

Warranty: 2 Years - Unlimited Miles

Motorcraft is a brand that's been around a long time, and for good reason. They are one of the top sources for any Ford replacement parts, even radiator hoses. While they're one of the more expensive brands, you'll be getting true OEM quality that makes it onto the production vehicles. For those who want to replace their upper hose with exactly one exactly like what came off, Motorcraft is the only choice. You won't get all the flashy color options, but you will get a quality replacement.

Goodyear

Price: $15-40

Looks: Standard Black

Constructed Of: Multiple Materials Offered

Temperature Range: Dependent on Material

Fitment: Direct replacement

Warranty: Limited Lifetime

Another tried and true brand, Goodyear. They offer multiple hose materials ranging from that quick, cheap replacement you need to what you'd use on a high performance off road vehicle. I personally like Goodyear due to all the different material grades offered, making it a good choice for all different levels of use. The only negatives I've seen on these is the part numbers don't always match up and that the cheapest line of hoses don't last that long, but that should be expected with the price of them.
