A fuel pump is the component that pumps fuel from the tank to the engine. A good brand makes a big difference as it will last longer and pump stronger. This article reviews four brands in particular, namely Motorcraft, AirDog, FASS, and Fuelab.

Motorcraft

Price - $320-$500

Estimated Lifetime - 5-10 Years

Warranty - 1-2 Years

If you're looking for true OEM quality, look no further as Motorcraft is Ford's standard fuel pump. Although it comes with a short manufacturers warranty, a lot of retailers will offer limited lifetime warranties with it as well. Normally, warranty length is indicative of lifespan; however, in this is case it's the opposite that's true. These are the fuel pumps that come on the trucks from the factory, so they're made to give you the longest worry-free time. Recommended if you want a quality pump at a lower cost.

AirDog

Price - $400-600

Estimated Lifetime - 7 Years

Warranty - Limited Lifetime

The AirDog fuel pump is a bit different than your average fuel pump, it combines the OEM three-part fuel system into one compact unit. What this does is give you both the benefit of having everything centralized in one easy to access location, as well as giving you the advantage of having a system that's just about 100% end-user serviceable. While this won't be a simple drop in replacement, if you plan on keeping the truck for awhile the time invested in the install could be well worth it. Recommended if you're looking for a high performance fuel pump.

FASS

Price - $600-$750

Estimated Lifetime - 7 Years

Warranty - Limited Lifetime

Like the AirDog system, the FASS system gives you an all-in-one setup to replace the three-part OEM system. The reason the FASS system is so similar to the AirDog system is that they are produced by the same family, although this doesn't mean they are exactly the same but rather share similar traits. However, the FASS setup is a bit pricier, and from the reviews it seems as though the AirDog setup is more hassle-free. On the upside, the FASS system is configurable for more high performance applications. Recommended if you want a high performance, drop in fuel pump.

Fuelab

Price - $450-$550

Estimated Lifetime - 5 Years

Warranty - 2 Year Limited

The Fuelab system is more comparable to the Motorcraft as it is more or less a direct replacement for the OEM unit. These are another great choice to go with as there are few negative reviews. However, be warned that some of the Fuelab pumps will require the additional purchase of their fuel regulator, which can add another $150 or so to the total cost. Recommended if you're looking for performance and don't mind adding a Fuelab fuel regulator.
