"Default Trailer" Goes Haywire

So, suddenly, out of nowhere, the information system on my 2014 FX4 defaults to presenting trailer information every time the vehicle is started. Not only that, but even with a trailer NOT attached, the mileage for any trailer selected (both "Trailer A" and "Default" trailer in my case) increases as I drive. This is an example of why I detest software-encumbered vehicles.

What's wrong? And how do I fix it without spending any $$$? This is the sort of thing none of us should have to bother with. It's the sort of thing a dealer should fix without question, free of charge.

Did you accidentally select a trailer as active? If so go to the trailer screen, and choose no active trailer.

No moisture. No damage. No active trailer.

the " trailer mode" is telling you the truck thinks the trailer is plugged in..... If there is not moisture shorting out the rear plug, then there is corrosion on the backside where the wires are shorted, or you have damage to the harness up by the spare tire / shock area... Somewhere the wires are shorted or corroded together and giving the truck a signal that the trailer is plugged it... you might be able to look at the operators manual and find the FUSES for the power/ brakes / tail lights on the trailer plug and pull them to verify that the "trailer mode" stops.

Crosscut. I had a similar situation on my '14 SCrew, 4x4 with OEM trailer controller.
dash would indicate "trailer disconnected" at different times. with no trailer attached.
ignored it until I noticed that the brake lights were flickering going down the road.

returned it to dealer under warranty, changed the in dash controller(or so they said) had no problem since (purchased new in '15)

just a thought.

I would have to agree. The system is seeing some kind of continuity/load on the brake circuit. Either that or possibly the TBC is faulty(?).
