Transmission cooler upgrade
guys, looking to do the 6.0 upgrade. From what I read, it's a simple swap but looking on NAPA's website, there are at least a dozen options of different sizes. Naturally I wanted to go with the biggest one but want to make sure it's going to work.
What kind of fittings are on the coolers; threaded, pushlock, or a simple flare with a clamp?

Kai, I think this article covers all your questions. 31 row cooler is the one you want, Dorman has them.

The Dorman #918-216 6.0 cooler I just installed actually has 32 rows (I counted them thrice!) vs the stock V-10's cooler with 13 rows and has 1/2" barbed fittings on the in/out. The mounting tabs match right up to the stock mounting points. Housedad recently linked to a 90 degree curved barbed fitting with 3/8" on one end and 1/2" on the other, they would make for a neater installation that the straight barbed fittings that I used.

I repped you for a different post the other day so I can't for this one too. This is excellent info for those with a 6.0, however for clarity sake, this video covers a slightly different subject than the thread. This vid covers the engine oil cooler specific to the 6.0L PSD, just FYI.

I noticed that too (6.0 engine oil cooler vs thread topic of 6.0 trans cooler), but figured maybe Dave was trying to make a point (unknown if right or wrong) that the Dorman products are all inferior to Motorcarft or Mishimoto. I didn't go so far as bandsawing both my OEM and the Dorman trans coolers open like the video but from an external very close inspection they do seem to be pretty equal in outward showing construction and the Dorman has earned a good reputation from other users.

Just finished the dorman install this weekend, went pretty easy. Biggest issue I had was finding a way to route the shorter of the two hoses so it could bend to the existing hose without kinking. I ended up routing it around the bracket holding the PS steering cooler.
BTW Put something like a rag on top of the AC condenser so you don't cheese grater your arms while you are working down there
