Good Morning Friends,

I'm looking for some ideas, pics, brands etc. for a Cup Holder. My '49 has a stock seat and no console etc. So I'm thinking either door or dash mount. I'd prefer to have it permanently mounted rather than clipped on or something. I browsed around and didn't find much I liked. So I could fab one if I had some ideas.

Ya know.......it occurs to me. I joined in '07 with Posts having to do with my frame-up build. Now, I'm posting about "Cup Holders"?

A word of encouragement to those buried under a pile of parts with big dreams and lean or no funds as I often found myself. After the glow / enthusiasm of getting your new Project wears off, it's easy to get discouraged. Persevere! You can't eat the whole Elephant at once. Stay focused working the small steps in front of you. Even though it takes years as mine did, one day, you'll suddenly find yourself posting about ":Cup Holders"...... Who'd a thunk".....

 

 

I couldn't find anything I really liked. One day I was in the machine room at work where I spied a piece of 3" pipe. I cut two pieces, each about 4" long and flared one end of each a bit. Welded a strap across the bottom of each and then welded them to a piece of heavy sheet steel after first folding a 90° tab across the bottom. Picked a spot along the bottom of my seat rail and screwed it on. May not sound like much but it's unobtrusive yet functions perfectly. The top of the holders are about 2" below the seat's edge. Easy to place a drink, no spilling it on the dash or having to fiddle with fiddly things. :-)

I bought a cheap plastic cupholder and attached a magnet to its base, which did a pretty good job of holding it in place on the floor.

 

Come on Dawg..... ...cup holders??

Just plop a roll of duct tape down on the floor and set your cup inside the roll, problem solved... ..stable and portable...LOL

Since I'm driving a roughed out old clap trap it's easy for me. Between my seat I have a tow strap rolled up and sitting on the floor. I've never had to use the strap but my Big Gulp sits inside the roll just fine

Ernie,
I used a cupholder from a 2000's Ranger that mounts on the trans hump. I thought I had pix but cannot find them. It gives me 2 cupholders, a bin for CD's and I mounted a back up camera to the back of it with minor modification.

 

When I had my 54 in college I would sit my pewter mug with a wide base on my seat. I never spilled a drop!

I like the duct tape roll idea!

I've used a plastic cake frosting cup several times in several different ways. Once, I fabricated a simple 'S" type strap to have it hang on the window slot in the door, other times I've made consoles that are big enough for them to sit down in (they have a plastic lip at the top to keep them from sliding down). They're pretty versatile, cheap enough to muck one up and not care, and wide/deep enough to hold most things easily.

I prefer the cream cheese frosting ones - makes 'cleaning' them out easier and tastier!

 

 

While they aren't hard to find, I have the kind that hook over the window ledge. And yes, I have bumped them a few times and spilled my drink, but it beats holding it between your knees.
