I believe it was 3 issues ago that Classic Truck Mag did a great spread on numerous consoles. Most looked great. Not my cup of tea, but you might try to get a back issue. Good luck, John
i made one but didnt use it. i made it out of sheet metal.
cut the sides the way i liked an then formed the top.
used cut off tail pipes for the cup holders then covered it.
looked pretty good but i am using a bench seat.
joners, couldnt find it must of thrown it away. i'll try to explain how i did it.
first decide on how you want it to look, then draw it out.
use cardboard for templates for the sides, less mistakes with cardboard than metal. after you get the side done trace it on metal. i rounded the tops of both side panels so when i layed the top peice on curves were easier to work with than bends. i welded the top on to the sides spot welds worked because i covered the console using scrap recycles carpet foam. then i went to auto zone and got the biggest diameter steel exsaust tips and placed them in for cup holders. small angle brackets at the bottom should hold the console down. you bould probably do the same thing out if wood but me and wood dont get along. i had plent of room for a stereo in the front and small speakers on the side with curtesy lights. very sorry i couldnt get you pictures. but i hope this helps. with patience and imagination you could come up with a really tough design. good luck.
What Use over 11 years ago was sheet metal and varnished oak panels, after a few years I just went to a salvage yard and found one I liked that matched my seats and use it. I used sheet metal to raise it up to the dash, then cover the sheet metal with the carpet to create the hump that's between cars. That worked out pretty good then I decided to go back to the original look and put the CD in the glove box. The salvage console will work great if you find one with CD/AC/lighter and other accessories in it. just my 2-cents
