a question about transmission cooler hose

i figure the answer will be no but it never hurts to ask. what i am wondering is if i can use clear vinyl tubing with the braided reinforcement as lines to a transmission cooler. i am replacing the factory cooler with a much larger one and was wondering purely for looks since the hose will easily be seen through the grill.

If you want fancy clear tubing you can use PTFE or PFA but for a 1/2" ID tube you're going to be talking $16+ a foot and it's usually special order.

What temperature and pressure is it rated for? And is it rated for petroleum applications? I suspect it won't work for all three of those reasons.

If it's the pvc braided hose from Lowes im pretty sure it's 100psi max at like 90ft but I've used it to 40psi and 160f in a non engine related application. It's gets very soft

Try a hydraulic supply shop, I've seen clear hoses for hydraulic use, not sure what their ratings are tho.

To answer multiple questions in one reply. yes it is like the stuff from the hardware store, how ever it has a pressure rating of 180psi. the working temperature is only 150 i think. it did state that it was chemical resistant but not proof. i figured it was a no go but thought it never hurt to ask. i will check the local hydraulic shop just for grins and giggles though. thanks for the quick answers.

It's way too low on maximum temperature. I would expect it to last a very short time as a cooler line.
